Schools Count Corp. is devoted to the world's children by providing resources that have the power to lift the spirit and unlock the vast potential of the human mind.
Schools Count Corp. was started by Dick Flesher in 2005, in response to the devastation that schools in New Orleans were experiencing after Hurricane Katrina. Dick, a retired teacher from Hinsdale Central High School in Illinois, quickly rallied his troops to put together relief supplies for schools with students in need. In the first month of this effort, over $750,000 worth of supplies were sent to Mississippi and the New Orleans area. Since 2005, Schools Count Corp. has put together truck loads of supplies including musical instruments, sporting goods, uniforms, winter coats, backpacks and general school materials in excess of $1 million for the residents of the Crescent City. In 2008, Schools Count Corp. expanded its assistance to include the areas of Galveston, Texas (Hurricane Gustav) and the Mississippi River valley of Iowa (flooding). Since that time, Schools Count Corp. has initiated an anti-poverty program in thirty-seven Chicago Public Schools beginning in 2010. Beginning in 2011 and continuing into this year SCC has brought aid to Harvey and Posen-Robbins Schools. In addition SCC has helped to rebuild a school in Haiti, and has aided schools in Joplin, MO. In 2012 SCC assisted those left in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. We look forward to being able to serve many schools going forward. For additional information on our past, current and future projects, read our blog or go to the most recent updates on the home page.
During the six years of aiding New Orleans schools, Schools Count Corp provided music instruments to Warren Easton High School, Frederick Douglas H. S. #35, and two schools in St. Bernard Parish.
Over the past four years, Schools Count has purchased music instruments which allowed the following CPS schools to start band programs; Chalmers Elementary School, King Elementary School, Pilsen Elementary School and John Hay Elementary School. Going forward SCC will assist the Harvey School District.
